Dr Bobby Cheng is a Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist Surgeon practising at Farrer Park Medical Centre and Mount Alvernia Medical Centre. He provides comprehensive eye care for both general and complex eye conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma as well as macular and retinal diseases. He also has subspecialty expertise in vitreoretinal medicine and surgery and in the management of ocular inflammation and uveitis, offering advanced diagnostic evaluation and treatment for a wide range of retinal conditions.

Dr Bobby Cheng is a Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist with subspecialty expertise in cataract surgery, vitreoretinal medicine and surgery and ocular inflammation (uveitis). He is the Medical Director of Cornerstone Eye & Retina Centre at Farrer Park Medical Centre and Mount Alvernia Medical Centre, where he provides comprehensive care for patients with cataract, macular and retinal conditions.
With more than 20 years of experience in ophthalmology, Dr Cheng began his career at the Singapore National Eye Centre, where he trained extensively in retinal and macular diseases. His early academic achievements include receiving the Gold Medal in the Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) examination.
Dr Cheng integrates advanced retinal imaging, modern microsurgical techniques, and evidence-based treatment to deliver precise diagnosis and effective management of complex eye conditions. His approach emphasises clear patient communication, personalised treatment planning, and long-term preservation of vision.
He has delivered over 50 presentations at international and regional ophthalmology conferences and authored more than 20 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals including Archives of Ophthalmology, American Journal of Ophthalmology, British Journal of Ophthalmology, and Retina. His research interests include dengue maculopathy and advanced retinal imaging using Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT).
His academic contributions have been recognised with several awards, including the Young Investigators’ Award at the Singapore-Malaysia Joint Meeting in Ophthalmology (2002), the Best Poster Award at the International Symposium on Uveitis in Italy (2004), and the Best Poster Award at the European Vitreo-Retinal Society Meeting in Sweden (2005).
In addition to clinical practice, Dr Cheng remains actively involved in research and medical education. He served as Adjunct Research Scientist at the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI), Clinical Teacher at the National University of Singapore (NUS), and Visiting Consultant at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC), where he contributes to the training of future ophthalmologists and advances in retinal disease management.
